Whey protein boost good mood chemicals

A study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition assessed the effect of a whey protein drink on brain chemistry and performance on a cognitive test.

Researchers were keen to see whether the whey protein, which is high in tryptophan (the amino acid that converts to serotonin) would result in lowered stress levels and provide performance improvements.

Compared to a control group who drank a casein-based protein drink, the whey protein group had higher serotonin activity, improved memory and improved performance under stress. These results suggest that consuming a whey protein drink at the correct dosage can assist in managing brain chemistry problems, stress and concentration problems.
