Home > Solutions > Case Studies 11 year old boy conquers attention problem “Brian” came to his first session complaining of difficulty concentrating at school, feeling easily bored, agitated and restless and fighting with his parents at home. We discussed his views on school, which classes went more smoothly, where the trouble spots were in the day and what he thought he wanted to be different. After clarifying that Brian wanted to feel smarter, quicker and more focused, we developed a nutritional and psychological change program to reach his goals. This included changes to what he was eating and drinking during the day as well as asking him to use certain kinds of music and computer games to change his brain chemistry. Our goal was to boost his levels of “rev up” chemicals so that his brain could relax and take everything in. We also put Brian on a supplement program to feed his brain key nutrients for concentration. Finally we worked out how he could change his behaviour at school so that the teachers would notice that something was different. In his follow-up session, Brian said that things were going pretty well (and his mother said that things were fantastic). He had stuck to his nutrition and supplement program, with excellent results at home and school- less fighting with Mum and Dad over homework, and improved comments from his teacher. Brian was keen to explore other ideas for managing his brain chemistry so we worked out what he could do when he felt bored, annoyed, angry and restless. He was particularly interested in how he could use various computer games to feel different and decided to experiment with games and music simultaneously. After a third session to consolidate the change plan, Brian felt that he was ready to manage things himself. An email from the family two months later confirmed that things were continuing to improve. |
